Our Story
Nice Pie was established in August 2013 by Katharine Walmsley.
Having always had a passion for all things food, Katharine set out to create a food business with a difference and Nice Pie
was born!
In just one month Katharine’s pies had won five prestigious food awards, and in 2014 her pies won 16 awards to include BPA Small Champion Producer and her first from both The Quality Food Awards and Great Taste Awards – in 2015 Katharine won a further 8 eight awards at the British Pie Awards to include two class champions – Nice Pie were also shortlisted for in the Great food Club producer category having 29 awards in just eighteen months of business!
Nice Pie is now a family run business.
Recently the business has expanded with the addition of a very successful Farm Shop & Tea Room which reached the No1 Best Place To Eat In Melton Mowbray within the first six weeks of trading! Set within the farm grounds in a converted chicken shed overlooking the beautiful Leicestershire Countryside a wide range of homemade food is served to include themed afternoon teas, hot meals, award winning pies, cakes and very popular scones, it’s hardly supprising the Tea Room is Melton Mowbray’s Most Talked About Secret!
At the 2016 British Pie Awards we were winners of a further 11 awards and in August 2016 we won the Pies & Pastry class at the Great British Food Awards… and have been winning awards every year since… to date having more than 108!
Secret to the success of Nice Pie?
We use the best cuts of locally produced meat and locally grown vegetables where ever possible, with hand trimmed meat to ensure the highest quality contents and of course our secret ingredients!
There is nothing nicer than a delicious handmade pie made with a rich butter shortcrust pastry, our award winning pies are some of the best in the country.

Some people see rabbits, pigeons and squirrels as serious pests, when actually they are delicious free range meals!
The meat obtained from rabbits, woodpigeons and squirrels is free-range, hormone and cholesterol free, tasty, and easy to cook.
So why not put them in pies?
That’s exactly what we did, resulting in our Gold Award Winning Squirrel Pie at the British Pie Awards 2014!
Since winning our gold award for our Squirrel Pie we have put this delicious Squirrel meat firmly back on the map, having Butchers, Bakers and Chefs following in our footsteps who are now producing meals aswell as pies which are proving to be in great demand.
